The Suffering of Iraqi Christian People Today

Our Christian people in Iraq are being exposed to all kinds of persecution everyday. As a minority with no backing at all, they become an easy target. They are tormented and crushed in a world like a jungle, where survival of the fittest rules.

I’m writing today about this painful and bitter situation to tell the people all over the world about the real daily life of our Christian brothers and sisters in Iraq.

For the last three years life in Iraq became very difficult. Peace and stability are deteriorating day by day as armed militants are on the loose, here are some examples:

1.     Justified and unjustified killing and assassination of highly educated people; professors,

Doctors, businessmen, and high ranking officers in the army. Of course lots of innocent people are being crushed in this process, this is happening in the so called   new democratic era.

2.     Car bombs, road bombs are killing people everyday under the pretext of resistance.

Who is resisting who? Or what?

3.     Terrorists are kidnapping and killing the wealthy liquor store owners who are all Christians just because they are Christians. They claim that selling and drinking alcohol in Iraq is forbidden and not allowed. According to what law?  I guess it’s the law of jungle since there has never been such law in Iraq. They start with sending threatening letters to those Christian families demanding ransoms, closure of their stores, leaving their houses or converting to Islam. Otherwise the stores will be bombed, their children will be kidnapped and their houses will be destroyed.

4.     On the other hand the rest of our Iraqi people who work with the Americans are Considered traitors and are doomed especially the Christians who’d always been put on the same boat with the British and Americans through the centuries because they share the same religion.

This was part of an evil plan designed by infiltrated Muslims to the country to deprive the original Christian Iraqi nation of their patriotic identity and belonging to Iraq and treat them as a second class citizen.

Casualties are awful. Families are loosing more than 2 and 3 members from the same family. Christian women and girls are forced to cover their heads and wear long dresses in schools and universities. Christian children are forced to attend Islamic lessons in school though lots of history lessons are full with Islamic teachings.

The worst blow came with the publication of the caricature that tackled Prophet Mohammed in the Danish newspapers. Iraqi Muslims and other Arab Muslims erupted like a volcano. Lava of halred, filled hundreds of slogans, cursing Christ and Christians. Young Iraqi Christians had been attacked and beaten by Iraqi policemen in some parts of the country. Signs of cross have been drawn on the floor at the entrance of buildings and universities, churches were bombed and burned.

As a result, lots of Christians fled the country seeking refugee in Syria and Jordan and hoping to manage to immigrate to any Christian country, USA, Canada or Australia.

The future of Iraqi Christians is not promising rather gloomy and terrifying, we do ask governments and nations to help us putting things right for Iraqi Christians. After all Iraq was a Christian country before the invasion of Islamic tribes and armies from neighbouring Saudi Arabia seeking water, food and wealth.
